The Fitness for Amputees App offers a range of comprehensible exercises designed for individuals with leg and arm amputations, created by skilled Ottobock physiotherapists. Tailored to those up to 6 months post-prosthetic fitting, this app serves as a consistent training companion in this unique scenario. All you require for the exercises are a mat, towel, and ball. Installing the app on your device enables offline use.

The app is structured into 3 modules for leg prosthesis wearers and 2 modules for arm prosthesis wearers.

  • The Lower Extremity Modules:
    • Strength & Endurance: Focuses on fortifying upper body muscles and stabilizing the spine to establish a natural gait pattern.
    • Coordination & Balance: Enhances coordination and aids in secure standing on the prosthesis, promoting comfort and natural movement sequences.
    • Stretch & Relaxation: Targets muscle relaxation and faster recovery, enhancing muscle flexibility through specific exercises.
  • The Upper Extremity Modules:
    • Shoulder: Strengthens arm and shoulder girdle muscles, helping correct poor posture and averting backaches and headaches.
    • Torso: Works on the abdominal and back muscles to boost balance, enhancing stability for improved prosthesis handling.

For optimal results, a training frequency of 2-3 sessions per week, each lasting 5-11 minutes, and interspersing between modules regularly is advised. The 3 difficulty levels (easy/normal/difficult) enable tailored exercises based on individual physical condition. Advancing to higher difficulty levels ensures sustained progress over time.
